Gold purity and finish

Five plain gold pieces sit in this group: a double chain bracelet, a curb chain bracelet with an adjustable extension, a polished comfort-fit wedding band, a two-tone wave wedding band and a pair of sculptural cuff earrings.

Purity: 10K gold is 41.7% pure and the hardest of the three, so it holds up best to daily knocks. 14K is 58.5% pure, the common choice for pieces worn every day. 18K is 75% pure, with the richest yellow colour and the softest surface. White gold in all three is alloyed with palladium or nickel and rhodium plated; rose gold is alloyed with copper.

Comfort fit means the inside of the band is domed rather than flat, so it slides over the knuckle more easily and sits with less skin contact. The comfort-fit band here can be worn as a wedding band alone or stacked with a diamond band.

Cleaning: plain gold can be washed in warm water with a drop of mild soap and dried with a soft cloth. Rhodium plating on white gold wears over a few years and can be redone.
